Brunner Mine Site

Described as a site of national significance, the Brunner Mine Site remains an important part of West Coast history.  The site housed New Zealand’s most productive 19th century coal mine and many mining elements remain within the site. Careful site planning and a real engagement with the character, people and history of the site resulted in building designs, site furniture, civil works designs and planting plans.  The result extends the character of the site without sacrificing the experience for visitors.
